Habitat destruction threatens jaguars in a mixed land-use region of eastern Bolivia

چکیده

Abstract Large carnivores such as the jaguar Panthera onca are particularly susceptible to population decline and local extinction a result of habitat loss. Here we report on long-term monitoring in mixed land-use area eastern lowlands Bolivia from March 2017 December 2019. We recorded 15 individuals four reproduction events (five offspring three females), suggesting that our study harbours resident breeding population. Seven iterations spatially explicit capture–recapture models provided density estimates 1.32–3.57 jaguars per 100 km 2 . Jaguar capture rates were highest forested areas, with few no captures pastures used for livestock. Massive deforestation after survey period reduced proportion dense forest cover by 33%, shrinking availability suitable placing at risk. use an indicator species highlight threat destruction Chiquitano region emphasize importance intact patches conservation.

Identifying linkages between land use, geomorphology, and aquatic habitat in a mixed-use watershed.

The potential impacts of land use on large woody debris (LWD) were examined in Sourdough Creek Watershed, a rapidly growing area encompassing Bozeman, Montana, USA. We identified six land classes within a 250 m buffer extending on either side of Sourdough Creek and assessed aquatic habitat and geomorphologic variables within each class. All LWD pieces were counted, and we examined 14 other vari...

A Rapid Physical Habitat Assessment of Wadeable Streams for Mixed-Land-Use Watersheds

Mitigating stream and river impairment is complex, particularly in mixed-land-use watersheds given the likelihood of integrated responses of stream restoration to coupled and ongoing terrestrial ecosystem disturbance and the need for periodic reassessment and maintenance. Traditional biological sampling (e.g., macroinvertebrate sampling or other biological indices) alone seldom identifies the c...

Impact of Land Use Changes on some Soil Micromorphological Features in Rakat Watershed, Eastern Khuzestan Province

The objective of this study was to investigate the impact of land use change (forest and rangelands to agriculture) on some micromorphological indices of soil quality in part of Rakat watershed, southwest of Iran. Accordingly, intact soil samples from 0-15 and 15-30 cm depths were collected from the above-mentioned land uses, and microstructure, type and abundance of voids, redoximorphic featur...

Relationship between land use and groundwater quality in six districts in the eastern region of Ghana

The chemical quality of groundwater in six district of the eastern region beneath the different types of land use areas of Ghana was examined to evaluate the effects of human activities on groundwater. Analyses indicate that groundwater in the studied area is fresh and generally suitable for most uses. The groundwater is generally characterised by a chemical facies of Ca-HCO3-, Na-Cl and mixed ...
